How to Get Your Driving License in Ontario

How to Get Your Driving License in Ontario highlights how complicated the process really is to get a driving license in Ontario, Canada.

This infographic provides a clear visual step-by-step process of obtaining your driver’s licence in Ontario, Canada. It was created as an attempt to help young Ontario drivers who would otherwise need to struggle through the dry pages of the official Ministry of Transportation website. Now answering these simple YES/NO questions anyone can figure out what they need to do next in order to finally get their licence!

Please note that this is a 2011 version and it was created based on the latest Ontario requirements so use it safely!

For those of you living in other countries this should still be fun to compare whether you country’s licencing system is simpler or more complicated than that of Ontario’s!

Thanks Andrei!

I don't understand why there are 2 decision steps at the end"
- Has it been 12 months since you got you G2 license?
- Has it been 5 years since you got you G2 license?
Why wait 5 years if it's available after 12 months?

re: Why wait 5 years if it's available after 12 months?

Not everyone decides to go for the full licence (G) at all - the only benefit it gives is the 5% discount that insurance companies provide to G-licensed drivers. That's basically the only difference between the G2 and G.

That's exactly the reason why a lot of people decide to stick to their G2 licence until it expires (after five years), even though technically they could schedule their G exam after only 12 months. So this is why we have included 2 final decision steps:

1) Optional: for those who want to take their G test asap (which is 12 months after they got their G2 licence)
2) Mandatory: For those whose G2 licence has expired (when it has been 5 years since they obtained it) and they have to take the next step if they want to keep driving.

Hope this helps.

Is this supposed to simplify things or display how confusing it is to get a license? It seems to better demonstrate how confusing it is rather than assisting anyone.
