The UK's Brexit Options in the EuroZone Visualized

The team at Information Is Beautiful have visualized the different options available to the UK in EuroZones: The Brexit Landscape, and have been making updates as the situation evolves.

Brexit? The Eurozone? The European Economic Area? The European Free-Trade Area? The European Customs Union? Whaaat?

A graphic that hopefully clarifies the complex structure of the European Union and the UK’s various routes and options for Brexit.

UPDATE: 15th July 2018: The saga continues. The UK announces its ideas for a “common rulebook” and “facilitated customs arrangement”, effectively a ‘soft’ Brexit.
Hard Brexit ministers resign.

UPDATE 3rd July 2017: It’s getting complicated! Added 2 more Brexit routes. See the first version.
UPDATE 1st AUG 2017: Detailed UK opposition party Labour’s positions. Refined ‘Free Trade Brexit’ & typical negotiation times (from here). Clarified a key difference between EEA (good & services) & Customs Unions (just goods). Read a useful, clarifying article
UPDATE 28th AUG 2017: UK opposition party, Labour, has now consolidated under a “soft Brexit” position.

Thus is a complete disaster for our country, and there is absolutely nothing to be gained by pulling out of Europe, I personally can not see why the government is so intent on creating a situation where we are going to be transformed into a third world country its pure fantasy to believe that we will be economically better of outside Europe. And as for tradeing with America once the damage is done then we are in a serious situation just like China where they can impose whatever extra taxation they desire you only have to read recent articles to see that president trump changes his mind in a whim. This damage is going to have a lasting effect on our country for decades. We will also be disliked and not trusted anymore by our European partners in the future in such an uncertain world where things change on a daily basis this is so foolish we should in actual fact be drawing closer together for economic and security reasons. Another very sad fact is that it will effect our younger generations prospects for their lives regarding work freedoms and education. I have spoken to many people over the past few months regarding so called britex and in most cases I have found that it's the elderly population that have concerns with comments like we should not be ruled by Brussels but when I've asked what rules do the disagree with in particular they don't know indicating that it's some idea that's been given to them with no real substance. When in actual fact a lot of the rules are beneficial for our lifestyle and safety. Its a shame that the older generation can have such a dramatic effect on our younger generations future when if we stay in the European community it will still make no difference to their prospects as they have already lived their lives. But in leaving it will effect the older generation that have already gone through years of economic hardship with rising fuel prices as we get the vast amount of electricity from the national grid mainly from French nuclear power stations. Rising food prices and restrictions on certain foods coming from Europe. A significant shortage of medicines as they come from Europe along with the experience and expertise of European scientists. A dramatic change in our economy as we won't have enough labour to fill the positions in many jobs including doctors and nurses. And many redundancys as European companies pull out of England and transfer there business to Europe including the 175,trillion turnover from the London banking system. I just hope that it's not to late and that people will realise the seriousness of the situation and that there will be a second referendum in order to reverse what is going to cause our country irreparable damage both in the short and long term. We have all the facts now as it's been widely published both in media and newspapers. My sincere hope is that we all wake up to the dire reality of the situation and overturn the leave vote to give us all a much happier and brighter future. The financial crisis was started in America with the downfall of fanny May and their banking system I would not put my trust in their system for our future prosperity.
