The 2010 Social Networking Map

The team at Flowtown.com designed the 2010 Social Networking Map as an update to the Map of Online Communities by xkcd.com in early 2007.  Social networking has certainly advanced in the last three years (even in the last three days!), so the update shows a lot of changes in geography.

It does seem a little premature to claim this is the map of social media for 2010 with five months left to go.  A lot can happen in five months (like the Apple PING service announced this week).

Good point. If digg gets their own island, should SlashDot and Reddit be there too?

LOL! Strait of Rick Roll! That stupid music got stuck in my head for a couple of weeks. It made me cry when I played that song again in my head when I say good bye to my friends.

Where's Perez Hilton at? And Technorati? O.o

I also wonder if someone would actually make a game based on this map :D

I like the "receding glaciers of AOL and Windows Live" - pretty funny. Never heard of Habbo until today.

Cool concept...seems like this same thing could be applied to any kind of map or schematic...

This is great work! Love the acronym ocean. I'll be sharing this with my friends.

Where's your Tweetmeme button? Facebook "like" button? Sheesh, making me work here, copy and paste...

Thanks Holly!

It’s subtle. At the bottom of each post is a “Share Article” button that gives you all of those options.
